J/ψ production at the Tevatron and RHIC from s-channel cut

چکیده
We report on our recent evaluation of the s-channel cut contribution to J/ψ hadroproduction. We show that it is likely significantly larger than the usual cut contribution of the colour-singlet model (CSM), which is known to underestimate the experimental measurements. Here the s-channel cut develops for configurations with off-shell quarks in the bound state. A correct treatment of its contribution requires the introduction of a fourpoint function, partially constrained by gauge invariance and limiting behaviours at small and large momenta. When the unconstrained degrees of freedom are fixed to reproduce the Tevatron data, we show that RHIC data are remarkably well reproduced down to very low transverse momenta PT without need of resummation of initial-state gluon effects. This unique feature might be typical of s-channel cut contribution.

We show that the one order of magnitude discrepancy between the observed cross section and calculational results for J/ψ in the color singlet scenario may be improved partly by introducing the Fermi motion in its fragmentation production. We have used a light cone wave function to introduce the the Fermi motion. The results are compared to the CDF data and also predict the production of this st...
متن کاملAssociate J / ψ + γ Production : A Clean Probe of Unpolarized and Polarized Gluon Densities
Color-octet contributions to the associate J/ψ+γ are found to be negligible, compared to the ordinary color-singlet contribution. Within the color-singlet model the J/ψ + γ production in the leading order is possible only through gluon-gluon fusion process. Therefore, the associate J/ψ+γ production remains to be useful as a clean channel to probe the unpolarized and polarized gluon distribution...
متن کاملΥ Production at Hadron Colliders : a Review
We give an overview of the present status of knowledge of the production of J/ψ, ψ′ and Υ in high-energy hadron collisions. We first present two early models, namely the ColourSinglet Model (CSM) and the Colour-Evaporation Model (CEM). The first is the natural application of pQCD to quarkonium production and has been shown to fail dramatically to describe experimental data, the second is its ph...
